1. CORE deadline is January 31, 2008
The Chapter Operating Requirements (CORE) deadline is quickly approaching. Click here to access the CORE page.

2. CORE survey—didn’t receive a personalized URL?
A chapter contact designated by each chapter should have received a personalized URL for that chapter to complete the CORE survey. Chapters that did not receive a personalized URL for CORE should email Scott Wilson.

3. Chapter team discounts available for the International Conference & Exposition
If at least five members of your chapter are attending the International Conference & Exposition in San Diego, June 1-4, your chapter can qualify for a chapter team and take advantage of the discounted rates of $850 for national ASTD members and $1,100 for nonmembers. To set up your chapter team, send Lindsay Hemphill at least five conference registrations (fax: 703.683.8184). Chapter teams will be established when the first five registrations from that chapter are received.

4. OfficeMax discount partnership—offering special pricing for your chapter’s printing and office supply needs
Through our discount partnership with OfficeMax, ASTD chapter members may enjoy discounted rates at OfficeMax online or at their local store. OfficeMax has your chapter’s logo on file, so you can conveniently place orders for business cards, envelopes, letterhead, note cards and more or purchase office supplies at a discounted rate for your chapter.

5. Certificate Partnership Program—host top-notch ASTD certificate programs and earn revenue for your chapter
Through the Certificate Partnership Program, chapters can partner with ASTD to schedule new certificate program dates and locations based on a business need (joint decision) or market upcoming certificate programs that are scheduled to be held in their area.  Click here for more information and options for participating in the Certificate Partnership Program. 6. CPLP registration deadline approaching—Register before February 14
The deadline to sit for the spring 2008 testing window (March 21-April 11) is February 14, 2008. Show your confidence with the CPLP credential behind your name. Click here for more details.

7. Do you have the correct logo on your chapter’s website?                                                                                                                                                                          The national ASTD logo and tagline work together to send a message of progress, vision, and growth. To convey a message consistent with the national ASTD logo to your chapter members, it is important to display the correct chapter logo on your website. Click here to download your chapter logo. 8. The Nebraska Chapter is recognized for a Sharing Our Success (SOS) submission

9. Save the date—Chapter Leader Day at ASTD International Conference & Exposition
Mark your calendar! Chapter Leader Day will take place at ASTD International Conference & Exposition on Sunday June 1, 2008, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. During this event, chapter leaders can network with fellow chapter leaders and learn about available resources and share best practices. Chapter leaders can take advantage of the Chapter Leader Room throughout the conference for additional networking and programming. Specific information about topics and a programming schedule will be posted to the Chapter Leader Community in mid-February 2008.

10. The Central Iowa Chapter celebrates its 60th anniversary
On January 18, the Central Iowa Chapter had its chapter celebration with Constance Filling as their special guest.  The chapter plans to launch a year-long 60th Anniversary celebration that will culminate in December with Tony Bingham, ASTD President and CEO. 11. ASTD public policy update—U.S. Department of Labor announced $10 million in grants to fund STEM workforce development initiatives
Citing a growing need for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workers, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced the availability of $10 million in grants to fund new and existing STEM workforce development initiatives in the public workforce system. DOL anticipates awarding between five and seven grants, ranging from $1.5 to $2 million dollars.

Eligible applicants must be individual workforce investment boards (WIBs) representing a regional consortium of WIBs, and must demonstrate existing or proposed partnerships with local STEM employers and educational institutions. Successful applications will include plans to coordinate regional STEM workforce education and training and increase access to STEM workers for employers. Grant funds may be used to support a wide range of activities, including work-based learning opportunities, job preparation and placement, and skills assessments.
