The Chapter Operating Requirements (CORE) deadline is approaching—January 31, 2008. Below are a few CORE reminders for your chapter.
Obtain your chapter’s joint membership percentage for CORE. Submit your roster by December 15
Submit your chapter’s membership roster by December 15 and national ASTD will calculate your chapter’s joint membership by January 15, to assist your chapter in completing its CORE report. To submit your roster and obtain this information, please email Lindsay Hemphill.
CORE Survey - Personalized URL will be sent this week
One chapter contact designated by each chapter will receive a personalized url for that chapter to complete the CORE survey this week. For chapters that did not designate a chapter contact for the CORE survey at ALC, please email Lindsay Hemphill.
4. Chapter Leader Community (CLC) 2008 Key Dates Calendar now available
Chapter leaders have requested an easy way to remember key dates for chapters throughout the year. Now you can keep up to date with important national ASTD dates and deadlines with the 2008 Key Dates Calendar, available via the home page of the CLC. Click here to access the calendar directly.
5. Employee Learning Week (ELW) is in progress. Send us pictures of your chapter's events
Many chapters are participating in ELW this week (December 3-7), and are hosting activities to celebrate the week-long initiative. Please keep us posted about your chapter’s activities and proclamations. If you have pictures from your events, we would like to feature them on the ASTD website. Please send pictures and descriptions of your chapter events to Laura Bynum.
6. The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter submits "Power of 2" idea and wins prize!
The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter submitted their chapter’s “Power of 2” idea and won a free set of ASTD Learning System Flashcards ($75 value) in a drawing. Don Dutko, chapter president, submitted this idea from the chapter:
“The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter requested a roster of national members in their area that were not chapter members from national ASTD. The chapter’s vice president of marketing divided the list among all board officers. Each board officer called a number of national members to invite them to the free networking event. We offered a reduced membership fee ($10 off the regular fee) if the person joined the chapter the evening of the networking event and a reduced fee ($10 off the regular renewal fee) to renew chapter membership.”
7. Chapter Incentive Program (ChIP) logo has been updated
The ChIP logo has been updated to align with the new ASTD logo and branding (see below for updated version). Please use this version when marketing the ChIP program on your website and in your newsletter. To save the updated logo to your computer, right click the logo, click “save target as,” and click “save.”

8. Now Available - New way to enter your ChIP code for online purchases
The Chapter Incentive Program (ChIP) is a revenue-sharing program that offers chapters an opportunity to earn additional revenue. Every purchase that includes your chapter’s source code will generate a commission for the chapter. Now, when making purchases through the ASTD online Store, you can now enter your chapter’s ChIP code with ease using the ChIP/Global Network Code field. The Promo Code field is still available for promotional codes only. There is also a link directly to the Chapter Locator for individuals to look up your chapter's ChIP code.
9. Message from Sharon Wingron, CPLP, NAC Chair, and ASTD Board Member
As the NAC Chair, my role is to represent the chapter point of view on the board, advocating for chapter resources and support. It is challenging to maintain volunteer organizations when we all have demanding "day jobs" and we are struggling to keep balance between our professional and personal lives. ASTD appreciates the commitment and passion you have for our Society and the profession. Let's all work together to ensure we have a positive professional reputation by upholding our responsibilities, responding to inquiries, and reaching out to those who can help grow and strengthen our profession. Please contact me at sharon@wingsofsuccess.com if you would like to share your thoughts on ways we can strengthen the ASTD national-chapter relationship.
10. "WLP Scorecard: Why Learning Matters" book now available
ASTD’s powerful new online tool, the WLP Scorecard, allows practitioners to directly link their initiatives and programs to organizational strategy, financial goals, and a range of other key business measures. This user’s guide coaches readers from an initial understanding of the scorecard to direct application of this software tool. CLOs, training directors, managers, and HRD professionals will find this guide an invaluable resource. Click here for more information and to order this book.
11. ASTD Public Policy update - Interested in learning more about your state's workforce investment strategies through 2009?
Under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, states and territories are required to prepare five-year plans describing their workforce investment strategies. The U.S. Department of Labor recently posted the updated plans to their website at http://www.doleta.gov/usworkforce/WIA/planstatus.cfm. The site also includes access to state annual reports for 2006 and information about Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) regions. The webpage is a valuable resource for any workplace learning and performance professionals using the public workforce system.
