ASTD Leadership Initiative (ALI)

Developed and managed by the Leadership Development Team (LDT), ALI is a growing repository for professional and volunteer development, events, and online resources. All of the materials available on ALI are developed and collected to support chapter leaders and enhance the job(s) they do on their chapter board.

Why should chapters use ALI?
ALI offers resources that focus on the ASTD chapter leader competencies, such as motivating others, communicating effectively, building a cohesive team environment and more. All of these are developed and collected to support the chapter leader and enhance the job s/he does on the board.
How does ALI work?
When you access ALI, you can select from the following areas on the left hand navigation bar, to assist you with using ALI to its fullest capacity:
Leader Model—As a starting point, begin by reviewing the Chapter Leader Competency Model to view areas where you would like to be a better leader and to help your chapter to grow and thrive. Click here to download a PDF version for printing.

Browse Resources—If you are looking for assistance in a specific competency area, click the “Browse Resources” section on the left hand navigation bar to browse the resources available in that area.
Search Resources—To search available resources, click on the “Search Resources” section and complete the form to search the resource repository.
Submit a Resource—Help the collection of resources grow by adding resources you have found to be helpful as a chapter leader. Fill out the form on the “Submit Resources” page, and an LDT member will review it for possible inclusion in the ALI resources.
Getting Started
When getting started, link to ALI to navigate the site and search for resources. As a helpful starting point, you can view the 9-part Onboarding Module to learn more about key topics of value to all chapter leaders. In addition, you can take a video tour of ALI.
