"Power of 2"

What is "Power of 2?"

ASTD national membership provides the tools and opportunities to be a knowledge leader in the Workplace Learning and Performance profession. ASTD chapter membership provides the opportunity to be a change maker in your own backyard. By joining both you have the tools to impact your organization, community, and career. That's the "Power of 2"! 

Why is it important?

The Chapter Operating Requirements (CORE) for joint (chapter and national) membership is 30 percent in 2008. Each year, this requirement increases by 5 percent until it reaches 50 percent in 2012.

Joint membership also promotes a stronger chapter leadership pool and better chapter membership retention.

How will ASTD help with promotions?

  • $5 ASTD Bookstore discount at the International Conference & Exposition for national members who join a chapter onsite

  • including chapter information in national membership marketing materials
  • calculating your joint membership percentage
  • the Chapter Incentive Program (ChIP) through which chapters earn $20 for each new national member and $10 for a membership renewal
  • the “Excellence in Membership Growth” Chapter Excellence Award

 

Tips for promoting the "Power of 2"

  • customize the "Power of 2" template to promote specific information about your chapter alongside ASTD national membership information
    ChAMP chapters      non-ChAMP chapters
  • distribute the $169 national membership application (for chapter members only)
  • use the "Power of 2" logo on your chapter communications and marketing materials
  • establish a chapter membership director
  • establish 2008 chapter goals and a corresponding plan of action for membership growth, new member acquisition, and member retention-and measure your results
  • Market to the list of ASTD national members in your state 
  • schedule an event or free meeting for national members in your area
  • use the ASTD toolkits and resources available on the Chapter Leader Community
  • share your practices through the Sharing Our Successes (SOS) program or through your chapter coach
  • offer national members a discount on chapter membership
  • BE CREATIVE-Do what will work best in your chapter!

How to sign up national members

  • refer members to the ASTD Store
    • suggest that chapter members use your ChIP code when joining national ASTD. Each new membership yields $20 in ChIP revenue for your chapter.
  • use customizable form for ChAMP chapters and mail check from member or
  • deposit checks from members and write one check to national ASTD with backup forms
