ASTD March Chapter of the Month—Greater Detroit Chapter
The Greater Detroit Chapter (GDASTD) was established in 1942 and continues today as the leading source of workplace learning in Southeast Michigan. Although the region is heavily tied to the automotive industry, the chapter represents training and development across every industry in the region. The Greater Detroit Chapter meets the professional needs of workplace learning professionals by offering members a variety of programs, networking opportunities, and training opportunities.
Partnering to host a “Future of Learning” workshop
GDASTD partnered with the Canadian Society for Training & Development (CSTD) to host a day-long “Future of Learning” workshop. This workshop attracted training professionals from four states and one provincial region. The workshop was the catalyst for other related training initiatives in the region for the manufacturing sector.
Founding a training institute
GDASTD is a founding member of The Michigan Training Institute, featuring a Train-the-Trainer program used by companies throughout the state to introduce workers to the field of training and development. The program, based on the ASTD Competency Model, continues to prosper and grow as companies recognize the importance of qualified training staff leading their learning endeavors.
Participating in Employee Learning Week
In 2006 and 2007, GDASTD was instrumental in coordinating and securing the governor’s proclamation for all four chapters in the state. The chapter sent press releases and daily emails, and participated in radio spots. The publicity resulted in many local companies featuring their own Employee Learning Week programs. Plans are already underway for the 2008 Employee Learning Week.
Recognized for “Chapter Scorecard” SOS submission
The chapter’s Sharing Our Success (SOS) submission was its chapter scorecard. The chapter scorecard provides a standardized format for tracking all chapter metrics, specifically those related to the Chapter Operating Requirements (CORE). This tool helps streamline the chapter’s ability to monitor all aspects of its operations and board members’ areas of responsibility. For more information about this SOS submission and for access to best practice materials, visit the SOS Success Stories page of the Chapter Leader Community website.
Congratulations to the Greater Detroit Chapter on being named Chapter of the Month for March 2008!
