ASTD Chapter of Month—the Dallas Chapter
The Dallas Chapter covers the Dallas Metroplex area, boasting more than 400 members with backgrounds as external consultants, training managers and specialists, and more. The chapter serves the local community through informative, engaging monthly meetings, special interest groups, and an active job bank.
Under the leadership of a dedicated board, the Dallas Chapter implemented a balanced scorecard strategy to energize the team and ensure long-term chapter success. This pioneering effort allowed the leadership team to identify goals, build continuity into some of the most important chapter functions, and form a foundation for year-to-year transition. This approach was highlighted in the chapter’s Sharing Our Success (SOS) submission recognized earlier this year.
The “Balanced Scorecard/Chapter Goals” SOS submission describes how the chapter established goals in categories including: customer, financial, process, learning and growth, and membership comprising a chapter scorecard based on a SWOT analysis conducted by chapter leadership. Each leadership team member then developed an individual action plan to support all of those goals. The chapter has already reached their membership goal of 10 percent growth and is excited about exceeding this target. Meeting attendance is also up and now averages 60 to 70 participants each month. For more information about this SOS submission and for access to best practice materials, visit the SOS Success Stories page of the Chapter Leader Community website.
In addition to their SOS submission, the chapter has had several successful programs, including:
· “The Dallas Best Place to Learn Award,” launched in 2005 recognizing individuals for their best practices
· highly successful “Training Basics” workshop in March 2008, containing interactive segments on needs analysis, measurement and evaluation, building a training workshop, and developing platform skills
· “Disney Keys to Learning” workshop
· ongoing active promotion of CPLP, including partnering with the University of Dallas to offer a CPLP prep class
· developing a risk assessment policy, improving chapter procedures, and building a SharePoint site for chapter leadership
Congratulations to the Dallas Chapter for being selected as the May 2008 Chapter of the Month.
