ASTD Policy Blog

The ASTD Policy Blog is maintained by the Government Relations Department of ASTD (The American Society for Training & Development). The purpose of this blog is two-fold:

1. To educate and inform members of the workplace learning and performance (WLP) profession on federal and state policies and trends that impact job training and learning.

2. To provide a forum for WLP professionals and the general public to discuss the intersection between workplace learning and public policy within the context of workforce competitiveness.

In an increasingly knowledge-based economy, workplace learning and performance has taken on a far more important role in helping organizations achieve success by building a knowledgeable, highly skilled workforce. Developing and maintaining talent, creativity, and productivity in the workforce is the key to success in this economy, and this blog will chronicle the ways in which governments seek to enhance the competitiveness of the workforce. While the primary focus will be on U.S. federal policies, we will also seek to provide updates on state and international activities as part of the larger discussion on the proper role of government in workplace learning and performance. We welcome thoughtful insights and impassioned discussion on these issues, and would love to hear your suggestions on topics to cover and questions to ask.
