Most companies understand that managing talent is essential to long-term organizational strategy, especially in tough economic times. Yet, finding the right approach often leads to inertia. Talent Management is a book designed to help organizations move toward real, deployable solutions. Written by top workplace learning professionals from well known companies including Cisco, McDonalds, Avon, Liberty Mutual, Ciena, and the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, readers get an insider’s perspective on both the how and why of developing a comprehensive program. Edited by Larry Israelite, vice president and manager of HRD for Liberty Mutual and author of the popular ASTD Press title, Lies About Learning (2006), this book offers insight to successful practices and how these practices are linked to positive business outcomes. In addition, the book provides an international perspective by the former chief learning officer of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Finally, a separate chapter offers valuable advice on adopting and using an integrated talent management software system.

Training may be a pleasant break from the usual routine, but too often the long-term results are lacking. With Making Learning Stick, you'll have a practical handbook to help ensure that transfer of training happens, so that what people learn in class is actually applied on the job, where it counts. Your training efforts can evolve into a way of life for your trainees, and your organization will reap the long-term results that indicate successful transfer of training.
(Barbara Carnes, December 2009)

Providing great customer service has never been more critical for the success of any business. 10 Steps to Successful Customer Service is designed as a quick but effective check up to ensure that front line professionals as well as customer service managers focus on the key practices that keep and create satisfied customers. Beginning with a focus on individual motivation for service, Maxine Kamin covers all the bases critical for success from trust and relationship building to maintaining a big picture perspective to avoid burn out on the job (Kamin 2010).

Drawing upon extensive research and experience, sales expert Brian Lambert pulls together the fundamental elements of sales success—the kind of success any consultative sales professional can apply to produce lasting relationships, productive business meetings, and accelerated top-line results. With 10 Steps to Successful Sales, learn how to develop a personalized selling system, establish customer loyalty and trust, understand the buying process, and create a personal development plan based on world-class knowledge and skill with this practical, easy-to-use resource (Lambert, 2009)

Decision Making Training contains all the materials needed to train others to make effective and appropriate decisions. The book offers practical, ready-to-use content that enables trainers and facilitators to quickly create half-day, full-day, and multi-day workshops. This book focuses on helping individuals define the elements of effective decision making techniques and provides the skills needed for success. It provides an easily understandable structured process, and is designed to train people interactively as they develop and use the strategies presented to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their decisions (Vaughn, 2010)

New Titles Coming Soon from ASTD Press!

Whether you're a middle manager yourself, or a human resources or training professional who can help them, this book shows how to become a "high-impact" middle manager -- one who makes substantial quantitative and qualitative contributions to the organization without that frenzied hamster-on-a-wheel work style. You'll find a powerful set of practices to help you reach your full potential, including: tools for demonstrating business results; instructions for managing time and projects; tips for optimizing work performance; and a practical implementation roadmap. This book is structured as a progressive learning journey, but you can also use it as a field guide to improve current practices. You can transform yourself into an effective professional who can connect all activities to both your company’s strategy and your own personal career goals (Haneberg, January 2010).

Social networking has the potential to change the game for many businesses by connecting their services or products directly to their customers, but it can be hard to know where to start and how to use these technologies. 10 Steps to Social Networking for Business describes some of the most frequently used social networking systems and their features and provides examples of how some organizations have used them to connect with their customers. The book provides ways to select the best systems for your own business, develop and launch a social networking initiative that connects to key business drivers, and build success over time. An appendix provides a more detailed roadmap for custom building a social networking system that is unique to your organization (Hartley, March 2010).
