Modules 1 and 2: Designing Learning and Delivering Training
(45 minutes)

Two areas of expertise are combined as Elaine Biech is joined by Bob Rosania in discussing the ASTD Learning System’s Designing Learning and Delivering Training modules. Key topics include adult cognition and learning theory and individual learning styles. Interactive exercises help you map your progress. Bob Rosania is a nationally recognized training and career development professional with more than 25 years experience in change management and career management strategies. He is the author of Presentation Basics and The Credible Trainer.  

Module 3: Improving Human Performance
(45 minutes)

Elaine Biech and Mason Holloway discuss some of the key points of this area of expertise, including the ASTD Human Performance Improvement (HPI) model, Rummler-Brache’s Nine Performance Variables Model, Gilbert’s Behavior Engineering Model, and root cause analysis. Mason Holloway is one of the principal authors of the Performance DNA™ methodology—a comprehensive and effective toolset for analyzing human performance—and a primary facilitator in ASTD’s HPI certificate program.

Module 4: Measuring and Evaluating
(36 minutes)

Patricia Pulliam Phillips, an evaluation and return-on-investment (ROI) expert, and Elaine Biech discuss some of the key knowledge areas from module 4, Measuring and Evaluating, including the purpose and benefits of training evaluation, the levels of training evaluation, analytical methods and tools, and the importance of using and presenting data-driven results. Patricia Pulliam Phillips, president and CEO of the ROI Institute, is an internationally known expert on accountability, measurement, and evaluation. She is editor or co-author of ROI Basics, ROI at Work, and The Bottom Line on ROI.

Module 5: Facilitating Organizational Change
(44 minutes)

Elaine Biech and Carol Ann Zulauf discuss issues relative to organizational change, including systems thinking, open systems theory, change theory, and change models. Carol Ann Zulauf is a consultant specializing in leadership, team development, and systems thinking for clients that span the high-tech, federal and state government, health care, education, and consumer product sectors. She also teaches at Suffolk University in Boston and is widely published. Her most recent book is The Big Picture: A Systems Thinking Story for Managers.

Module 6: Managing the Learning Function
(35 minutes)

Elaine Biech and Lou Russell present key knowledge relative to project management and legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.  Lou Russell, president and CEO of Russell Martin & Associates, is a popular and entertaining speaker at national and international conferences. She is also a frequent contributor to management and information technology publications and is a consultant on information technology, sales, operations, leadership, and strategic planning.  She is the author of six books, including Leadership Training, Project Management for Trainers, Training Triage, and the upcoming 10 Steps to Successful Project Management.

Module 7: Coaching
(33 minutes)

Elaine Biech and Cindy Roman, executive coach and graduate professor at George Washington University, present an overview of key knowledge relative to coaching that includes standards of conduct, coaching roles, and selection criteria. Cindy Roman is an executive coach with Strategic Performance Group and has nearly 20 years experience in coaching and organization development consulting for major American corporations, nonprofits, and governments. She is the founder of the Graduate Certificate Program in Leadership Coaching at George Washington University and co-author of Leading From the Inside Out: A Coaching Model.

Module 8: Managing Organizational Knowledge
(50 minutes)

Elaine Biech and knowledge management guru Ralph E. Grubb discuss the key concepts, philosophy, theory, history, and best practices of knowledge management. The webcast is augmented with telling examples from Ralph E. Grubb’s work over the past 35 years with IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Motorola, and many other organizations. An industrial and organization development psychologist, he is the author of more than two dozen publications on performance improvement.

Module 9: Career Planning and Talent Management
(47 minutes)

Elaine Biech and Steve Merman, career management and leadership consultant and former ASTD national president, discuss workforce planning and succession planning. Steve Merman’s career has ranged from university teaching to a successful consulting practice, and from human resource planning and development for Amoco to leadership positions within ASTD; he is also the co-author of publications on career management systems and assessments.
