Managing Organizational Knowledge Certificate Program

Enhance employee performance and foster innovation

With the amount of knowledge doubling every two to three years, managing organizational knowledge is a vital activity for organizational success. This two-day program looks at knowledge management from both an organizational and a learning function perspective, and helps participants adapt a more dynamic set of offerings that improve workplace learning and performance.

Listen to the Managing Organizational Knowledge Certificate Podcast!

Audience
This program is designed for professionals who want to understand knowledge management and how to provide leadership in their organizations with a broader array of learning and performance solutions that meet the critical information needs of the workforce.

Course Description
Effective knowledge sharing throughout an organization enhances employee performance, fosters innovation, and facilitates the exchange of its most important commodity—the “know-how” of the people who make the difference between success and failure.  Leveraging organizational knowledge for maximum impact requires approaches that include, but also transcend formal training.  Now, workplace learning and performance professionals have a major role in enabling access to critical knowledge and expertise in real time, wherever and whenever work gets done.  More than just repositories of content, emerging Knowledge Management (KM) practices also include fostering collaboration and access to experts, as well as a multi-disciplinary approach where knowledge is directly and systemically integrated directly into the workplace, often as a function of the job itself.  And, with the emergence of web 2.0 tools in areas of knowledge creation and distribution, as well as social networking, the characteristics and design of knowledge management solutions become more flexible and less complex, enabling everyone to participate in generating and managing organizational intelligence and “smarts.”  The implications of this new information revolution are incorporated into this non-technical, strategic workshop.

The content is based, in part, on the ASTD Competency Study and helps in preparation for obtaining, the CPLP™ credential.

Learning Objectives
After the workshop, participants will be able to:

  •            Develop a vision and strategy for a knowledge-centric workplace, ensuring that it integrates with the organization’s business strategy
  •            Evaluate and determine appropriate uses for current and emerging knowledge management tools and technologies, including web 2.0 approaches, to support work-centered learning and performance
  •            Manage the information life cycle, from identifying, defining, and creating knowledge assets, including knowledge mapping, through managing, distributing, and sharing information, and, ultimately, to assessing the value KM brings to the organization
  •            Examine the design of workplace and social environments that encourage and facilitate knowledge creation, sharing, and innovation
  •            Analyze organizational readiness for knowledge management and implement appropriate strategies to assure successful organizational implementation.

On-Site Offerings
ASTD can make arrangements for the Managing Organizational Knowledge Certificate Program to be offered at your organization. If you have a minimum of 12 participants, you might find it is easier, and more cost effective, for one of our facilitators to come to your site and teach a two-day seminar. Your attendees participate in the same learning experience offered at our public seminars, but have the convenience of being at your site and the benefit of covering the material with company peers.
