Topic 3:

Breaking into Distance Learning ISD and Teaching

Question: I am very interested in getting into the field of distance learning, ideally in the area of instruction, but would enjoy course development as well. My undergraduate degree is in organizational development. I have a Master's level certificate in corporate training and will complete my Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in online learning, course design, etc. I have had years of instructional experience and feel that I am qualified for an online teaching experience. The problem is that I don't know where to start. There are a multitude of institutions that offer online learning now, some probably more credible than others, and I haven't been able to find a site that offers job positions exclusively for online instructors. I am looking for ideas on where to start my job search in this area and would appreciate any advice that you may have. Thank you.

Answer: From the description of your preparation and experience, you certainly are a highly qualified candidate for the type of position you are seeking. On-line instructional jobs cut across several categories. There is one Website devoted to on-line instructional job listings: www.e-learningjobs.com and one freelance site that specifically mentions this area: www.guru.com.
