Instructional Design ~ Current Thinking
- Corporate Learning Strategies: The author asserts that the learner is the driver of motivation to learn yet the organization benefits from the learning sometimes more than the individual. The book presents a model that captures the five central domains of corporate learning and their associated motivational features. This roadmap helps encourage and cultivate employee growth using a proven return-on-learning-investment model. Three case studies are used to illustrate the model. ASTD Press Book 2006
- E-learning Maintenance Strategies: Why You Need One: This article emphasizes the importance of an e-learning maintenance strategy for keeping course elements updated and accurate, thus extending the life-cycle of the program or course. To implement such a strategy requires support from learning champions. This article outlines the steps to take to obtain the necessary support and create and implement a maintenance strategy. - Developing Localization Friendly E-learning: This article outlines factors to consider when designing e-learning for different cultures. It describes the importance of planning for different learning styles; varying levels of bandwidth and other software and html internationalization factors; and content presentation approaches (language, use of graphical depictions, etc.). - Learning Molecules Model: This article introduces a reusable molecular model for designing e-learning programs. This e-learning molecular model is made up of resources (course materials), utilities (materials and activities for workplace application, collaborative tools (activities used to facilitate online communication about the course, and evaluation tools; the nucleus of the molecule is a scenario-based problem or case study. This molecular model is being used successfully by e-Cornell, a subsidiary of Cornell University. It got its start as a rapid design tool for working with SMEs in developing courses. - Lessons in Learning, E-learning, and Training: This book uses stories of lessons learned to illustrate that learning is an inductive process. The author urges workplace learning practitioners to think carefully and fully about a training project, request, or program and consider the best way to provide a meaningful learning experience. Pfeiffer and ASTD Press Book 2005
- Another New Paradigm for Instructional Design: The author suggests there is a new paradigm in instructional design called dynamic construction of instructional content based on an independently managed presentation and delivery layer. This new approach promises content that can be easily reused across different media platforms. Learning Circuits v5 n11 November 2004
