This article asserts that as the profession of coaching grows so too will the demands for credentialed coaches. The International Coach Federation is working toward creating credentialing levels and the associated requirements to give this profession structure and substance. Experts in the field urge new coaches to pursue credentialing and/or certification and stress the importance of having clearly defined roles and expectations for coaching.

The DaimlerChrysler Academy (DCA) now in its fourth year has demonstrated to DaimlerChrysler and its dealers the value of training. DCA offers a dealership certification that covers product knowledge, selling techniques, and other topics linked to  performance indicators and scorecards for the dealerships.

The ASTD CPLP Learning System is a self-study program comprised of a user's guide and nine individual modules. The modules titles are: Designing Learning, Delivering Training, Improving Human Performance, Measuring and Evaluating, Facilitating Organizational Change, Managing the Learning Function, Coaching, Managing Organizational Knowledge, and Career Planning and Talent Management. The modules mirror the elements of the ASTD 2004 Competency Model.  The Learning System contains a body of knowledge and is not meant for use as an on-the-job training tool.
