January 2007

Auld Lang Syne

Welcome to 2007. Rather than reflect on the past year, let’s savor the new year. We’re always looking for new ways to give our readers up-to-date information about the important topics and best practices that affect them. So like everyone who examines the past year and vows to make improvements in the new year, we’ve refreshed T+D with two new columns for 2007.

Do you have questions about the cost associated with training? Each month in What Things Cost, we’ll tell you what you can expect to pay for some common goods and services. This month, on page 80, we examine the price of producing a simple audio podcast.

Another new column—The Long View—will profile legends in the field. You’ll get a quick take on their big ideas and predictions for the future. We start the series with Elliott Masie. Turn to page 70 to find out why he wears those brightly colored jackets and where he thinks e-learning is headed.

This month, our At C Level series goes international in an interview with Ramalinga Raju, the CEO of India-based Satyam—a pioneer in the offshoring industry. You’ll also learn about the company’s new school of leadership, which is set to open later this year.

This issue also contains the findings of the latest ASTD salary survey. With more than 2,800 respondents, this comprehensive survey cross-references salaries with eight different factors that affect earning power. Turn to page 42 to find out where your salary ranks.

It’s only January, but 2007 is off to a good start. T+D intends to keep its resolution to bring you the information you need to stay on top in the fast-paced world of learning and performance.
