Are you career resilient? Are you prepared to adapt to career transitions and challenges?

Two feature articles in this issue of TD are all about helping you, the talent development professional, develop career resiliency and find the strength to make a late-in-life change if one is necessary.

"Following six steps can help you to be purposeful about building your career resilience and to be better equipped when change occurs," writes Maureen Orey in the cover article.

And Chantal Gardner, in her article, examines the myths involved with changing your career. "Many of us do not dare take the plunge [into a new career] because we feel limited by mental barriers, fears, or ignorance on how to bring the dream to reality."

Both articles highlight the need for career adaptability when preparing to enter a new field of work or coping with obstacles on the job. It is one of Orey's six steps of career resiliency and as Gardner writes, "Adaptability is the capacity to change and be ready to cope with unpredictable events with enthusiasm."

The Association for Talent Development values its members' careers. This issue of TD—in conjunction with ATD Career Week (September 15-19)—highlights the need for all talent development professionals to take charge of their careers. Don't wait for something to happen in your career; anticipate and prepare for challenges before they occur.
