Army Rolls Out New Virtual Combat Training

Soldiers can now practice major combat operations and irregular warfare in the safety of a virtual world using head-mounted displays, full suits, replica weapons, sensor systems, and wearable computer packs.

The Dismounted Soldier Training System, developed for the Army by Intelligent Systems, was rolled out at Fort Bragg, N.C. on July 26. Over the next six months, it will head to 28 U.S. Army installations worldwide.

The Army has long been a leader in applying technology to learning. Look to their new virtual combat training for clues to the future of elearning.
