Millennial Week DC 2014 kicked off last night with a cocktail reception and awards ceremony.  The first-time event debuted to a packed house of Millennials representing innovation in government, the arts, business, and social justice.  The room had a palpable energy as speaker after speaker alternatively lauded, challenged, and chided the audience.

Many of us have seen the numbers describing the impact this cohort is having on culture and changing how we communicate via social media and other platforms.  The fundamental fact is that Millennials are transforming America.

We see their impact locally, as they flock to this city in record numbers to make their marks in the public and private spheres.  Many of them in this region choose to work for not-for-profits or for the public sector, seeking out organizations that have a social impact.  Even in the for-profit sector, a common feature of many Millennial-owned businesses is some element of social giving.
