ASTD has partnered with LINGOs (Learning in Non-Governmental Organizations) to support the professional development of humanitarian relief and development staff working on some of the greatest challenges facing developing nations. The partnership will have a direct impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of programming in the developing world.
LINGOs was created in 2005 as a mechanism for organizations to share learning resources and collaborate on new ones. Private sector learning companies and learning professionals donate or subsidize access to world-class software, courseware, learning systems, and related services for use by more than 200,000 staff members of LINGOs Member Agencies working throughout the world.
Through the generosity of its partners, LINGOs currently offers hundreds of courses on Leadership and Management Development, Information Technology, Project Management, Stress Management for Humanitarian Workers, Personal Safety, and other topics through branded and unbranded portals on the LINGOs learning management system. The collaboration enables LINGOs to help international NGOs increase the skill levels of their employees and therefore increase the impact of their programs.
“NGO employees around the world have completed more than 80,000 courses,” notes LINGOs Executive Director, Eric Berg. “And 10,000 courses were completed in the first quarter of 2012 alone. We are very excited about the partnership with ASTD and are confident with its support we will be able to reach even more people working to improve the lives of the most vulnerable populations on the planet. ASTD’s reach and reputation will help create awareness in the learning community of new opportunities for giving back. What a tremendous contribution – and we are very grateful.”
ASTD is proud to feature LINGOs in the ASTD Connection Center at the ASTD 2012 International Conference & Exposition, May 7-9, 2012, in Denver, Colorado. LINGOs will also be featured in an upcoming Trends article in T+D magazine.
