Meeting with the Senate HELP Committee, CPLP approved by workforce boards!

ASTD was back on Capitol Hill last week. We met with labor staff of Senator Carey's office from Pennsylvania. We introduced ASTD and explained how we can help the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on Workforce Investment Act (WIA) reauthorization and other training related legislation. Staff seemed very interested in working with us, especially locally in Pennsylvania. Making the connection with local workforce boards, our chapters and our members seemed to be of interest to staff.

During the meeting, ASTD shared its recommendations for WIA reauthorization. We had been asked by senior staff of the HELP committee for our input to the bill. The Senate is hoping to have a draft bill sometime later this summer.

ASTD plans to meet with staff of the House Education and Labor committee next month to share our recommendations. Our hope is that the House will also have a draft bill sometime soon.

As you know, Chapter leaders will be heading back to Capitol Hill this fall to discuss WIA with key legislators.

CPLP Approved by Workforce Boards in Washington DC and Virginia!

ASTD has received approval from the Washington D.C. and Northern VA Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) for a bundled product of CPLP preparation and testing. People who are in job transition in D.C. or anywhere in Virginia will soon be able to use their public training funds for this offering. More information to come when ASTD is listed on these workforce systems training databases.
