Congressional Conversations Preconference

Preconference: Thursday, October 18, Congressional Conversations ($99)
This event includes lunch and a trip to Capitol Hill led by ASTD’s Public Policy Council to meet with members of Congress and their staffs to discuss policies and legislation affecting the learning and development field, and to offer help and expertise in training. ASTD Public Policy will help you get ready for the event by providing email templates to request appointments with Congressional staff and talking points for your visit. *Please note that this does not include a tour of Washington DC, however, you may schedule on your own in between meetings.

11:45 a.m.: Check in at ASTD registration desk, get name badge
12:00-1:00: Informal orientation (boxed lunches provided)
1:00: Depart hotel for Capitol Hill
1:45: Arrive on Capitol Hill (Union Station)
2:00-4:00: Meetings on the Hill
4:30: Meet back at Union Station
4:45: Bus leaves Union Station
5:30: Arrive back at Crystal Gateway Marriott

4. Template request letter - to request an appointmet with your Senator or Representative’s office. You can use this as an email request, or copy and paste pieces from it in an online appointment request form.

ALC 2013 registration will open in June/July 2013. ALL 2013 and 2014 CHAPTER LEADERS are invited to JOIN US for this learning opportunity. 

The ASTD Chapter Leaders Conference is unique, because most all sessions are peer-led by chapter leaders. There are no podium lecterns in ALC session rooms and sessions at ALC have no "speakers", but are conducted as facilitated discussions.

All activities listed below will take place at the Marriott Crystal Gateway and are included in the price of registration, with the exception of Congressional Conversations which includes lunch, transportation to Capitol Hill, and requires a separately purchased $99 ticket.

	Jim Smith, Jr. @jimpact Jim is an internationally known author, empowerment/ motivational speaker, trainer and coach. Individuals who have been JIMPACTED often leave emotionally drained yet inspired to reach new levels of personal success and make a positive impact to the world around them. His enthusiastic and passionate style of speaking has earned him the distinction of “Mr. Energy!”
	Lou Russell @nolecture Lou is an executive consultant, speaker, and author whose passion is to create growth in companies by guiding the growth of their people. She inspires improvement in leadership, project management, and individual learning. Lou blends her humorous stories with her on-the-ground experience to speak to the real problems of the people in the room. You will be moving, laughing, participating, inspired and challenged. Most importantly to Lou, you will learn.
	Heather Richetto-Rumley @hrrumley_cpg Heather is a Certified Master Coach (CMC) who works with senior level executives in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors to improve individual and organizational performance through successful leadership development. Heather is a skilled individual Performance Coach focusing on specific development needs such as: enhancing leadership style, improving executive presence and communication skills, accelerating culture change, improving recruitment practices, on-boarding new leadership, and succession planning.
