Leaving ADDIE for SAM

When companies produce ineffective learning, they often place blame on content organization, technological limitations, or clumsy navigation and interface.

It’s true that each of these reasons can contribute to success or failure. However, organizations rarely hold accountable the most significant factor: the process implementation of designing and developing learning events.

As a capable learning designer, you already have a strong collection of ISD basics. The Leaving Addie for SAM MegaWorkshop cultivates your knowledge through hands-on application of the successive approximation model (SAM)—an agile, iterative process that has been used for decades to produce award-winning courses.

In this MegaWorkshop, you'll practice the techniques necessary to produce the meaningful, memorable, and motivational scenario-based learning experiences your organization needs. You'll have the unique opportunity to participate in an industry-leading strategy specifically created to facilitate brainstorming and design prototyping. Return to your organization with skills that blend these four categories:
  • agile project management
  • performance consulting
  • stakeholder management
  • performance improvement.

After participating in this workshop, you’ll be able to:

1. Explain the characteristics of a desired learning experience.
2. Design and plan a SAVVY Start.
3. Identify the events and deliverables in each phase of SAM.
4. Use a consultative approach to explain why an iterative approach leads to a better end product.

Format

This two-day workshop begins with an overview of SAM and agile, and then catapults participants into hands-on practice using SAM to build initial prototypes, create collaborative teams,  manage deliverables, and more. You will also receive face-to-face guidance and support from the authors of Leaving ADDIE for SAM and the Leaving ADDIE for SAM Field Guide.
