Scripts for e-learning, how-to text for help systems, print documentation, and technical guides all have one key requirement: accurate step-by-step written instructions. One missing step can frustrate the learner or end-user and derail the entire project. On the other hand, overly wordy descriptions and elaborate or inconsistent use of language can mislead the learner as well.
In this program you will learn to write concise, yet detailed, step-by-step instructions for training and technical documents.
During the workshop you’ll learn how to break down masses of information into learner-friendly units quickly and efficiently. You’ll review the writing process from content acquisition to structuring and formatting how-to steps for print, e-learning development, or documentation.
You will also learn how to create introductory narratives that explain the purpose of each how-to segment and involve and motivate the learner. You’ll receive examples that get this job done in two or three sentences, and practice creating narratives for your own work as well. You will also receive an overview of how to write voiceover scripts for e-learning to accompany the step-by-step instructions.
This program is 100 percent interactive. You will write narratives and step-by-step instructions for topics presented in the class, and you may also opt to write examples from your own work. Live beta testing will provide immediate feedback on your writing and instructions. At the completion of each session, you receive direct feedback and engage in lively discussion that further teaches and reinforces effective technical writing habits and techniques.
At the end of this program, you will be able to:
