How do you effectively develop training for employees in areas that are technical, complex, and highly specialized? And how do you do it when you’re working with a subject matter expert (SME)?

Technical training is a misunderstood, challenging, and sometimes frustrating topic. This program explores what makes technical training unique, the essential skills necessary for both a developer and a SME, and the process of creating technical instruction for operational, tool-based, and/or software training. You’ll receive detailed solutions, suggestions, and takeaways to help you design highly effective and well-regarded technical training programs.

Program Overview

Technical training isn’t easy, but if you crack the “Technical Training Enigma,” you increase your chances for success.

In the first session of the program, you’ll explore technical training, including those specific items that make technical training different from nontechnical training. You’ll identify the must-have characteristics of a developer and a SME, and have the chance to evaluate your own strengths and areas for improvement.

The second session of the program covers how to successfully and efficiently develop technical training programs. You’ll examine early considerations for development, as well as tips for success when selecting an organizational system, incorporating interactivity, dealing with a specialized jargon, and completing the editing process with a SME.

The third session of the program will cover common challenges and solutions to technical training development. For example:

  • projects that never get finished
  • technical content that is too complicated for most developers to understand
  • teaching products or procedures that are constantly in flux.

Most importantly, you’ll have the chance to discuss and generate solutions for your own technical training challenges.

Throughout the program, you’ll learn detailed solutions, suggestions, and takeaways that address technical training from the big picture perspective and the day-to-day. This program provides specific ideas and strategies for working with SMEs, navigating highly technical content, and more.

At the end of the program, you’ll walk away better prepared to effectively and efficiently tackle your own technical training projects.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

  • Identify success factors related to the development of technical training.
  • Evaluate your own technical training team.
  • Describe ways that technical training can be approached in an organization.
  • Implement solutions for your own technical training challenges.

Essentials of Adobe Flash® for E-Learning Designers

Adobe Flash® has two distinct user groups: the hardcore programmer/developer and the creative designers. As an e-learning or instructional designer, where does that place you?

Rapid e-learning software relies on Flash and Flash elements to add interactivity, but most high-quality e-learning courses are built entirely in Flash. Where do you begin learning? Most books and learning sites target either the programmer or the creative designer, but as an e-learning designer, where can you go? If you can relate to these questions then this three-session online workshop is for you.

At the start of each session, you will receive sample coding and graphics via URL download. This workshop takes place in the Flash environment instead of being PowerPoint driven.

    Essentials of Adult Learning

Many of us become trainers without formal preparation for designing or delivering training to adult audiences. The workplace audience in particular presents unique challenges, such as time constraints, mandatory training requirements, and dispersed workforces. With a good grounding in what works for the adult-workplace learner, we can overcome what seems challenging and capitalize on the diversity of learning approaches in the 21st century.
