Companies are aggressively looking for ways mobile technologies can give them a competitive edge. A significant area in which to find this advantage is in mobile learning and performance improvement. Mobile learning (m-learning) is becoming an important area of focus for many organizations looking to push learning and development to a growing mobile audience that has smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. How do companies take their significant investment in e-learning and convert it for use in a mobile world? There is still a strong belief among people who are not intimately familiar with mobile learning that mobile learning is nothing more than e-learning on a mobile device. But the fact is that proper conversion of content to mobile learning requires instructional design and development skills for mobile learning.

In this detailed three-part program, join experts from Float Mobile Learning in the exploration of the Essentials of Mobile Learning. Strategy, media development, deployment strategies, and everything in between will be discussed in this series.

Program Overview

ASTD’s Mobile Learning Certificate is a hands-on workshop that explores the design methodologies, technology, platforms, and devices required to harness the power of m-learning.

Facilitated by experts in mobile learning, you’ll take away the latest and most accurate content on mobile technologies, strategy, design, technology, resources, and implementation. You’ll leave this interactive workshop with strategies for making m-learning easy to use and applicable.

This workshop will:

  • Look at current mobile technologies to gain an understanding of how they are changing learning today.
  • Explore how to reshape an organization’s learning strategy to include mobile learning.
  • Dissect the steps to creating a successful m-learning project.
  • Provide a detailed action plan for implementing a mobile learning project.
  • Draft outlines and storyboards for mobile content.
  • Build a prototype as a group by looking at rapid prototyping tools and techniques.

In this course, you will use your phone to access examples of mobile content as well as launch and navigage a clickable prototype.

ASTD Certificate Programs are learning events and a certificate is awarded to participants upon successful completion of the program. No test is given and participants are not certified after completing the program. Certification is distinct from certificate programs in that it is a testing event that confirms that skills, knowledge, or competencies have been acquired. Please click here for more information on the ASTD Certification Institute’s credential, the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance™ (CPLP™).

Technical Requirements: Participants will need to bring a laptop (PC or Mac) and a mobile device (Android phone, iPhone, or any tablet) to the workshop. It is critical to have the most up-to-date browser on your laptop. Google Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer 9 are all recommended.

  • Mary Gray

"I took away a lot in terms of mobile strategy and how to get some small and big wins early on. I learned that it's time to get back to the table with IT and how to approach the conversation to really make mobile learning a possibility within my organization. I also learned that it's important to have the designers up to date on how mobile delivery will affect the way they design courses as well as how we develop them.

I would recommend this program because it gives you the basis of what you need to implement mobile learning successfully. Not just build a fancy app, but to do a needs analysis to decide on the best solution for your needs.

I trust that ASTD has the people and the resources to help me with my development. My organization recognizes ASTD as a high standard for professional development in the field of training and development."
