While it is commonplace for organiza­tions to invest in leadership develop­ment programs, it is far less likely for organizations to have meaningful insights into how they can measure the effectiveness and value of them. Important areas of evaluation include increased employee performance, customer satisfaction, product qual­ity, corporate profitability, and other various indicators of mission success.

This workshop will provide an overview of the study “The Impact of Leadership Development Programs” by the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) and ICF International. We will review the study’s findings, and help you to consider how the identified best practices can be used in your organization.

Program Overview

This interactive program will identify the key components of a successful leadership development program (LDP) evaluation and provide practical steps for implementing an evaluation. This workshop answers important questions that should guide the evaluation of leadership development programs, such as: 

  • What role does my organization’s culture play in evaluation? 
  • How will I measure the impact of the leadership program?
  • How will I plan and design the evaluation?
  • What are the most likely barriers I will face during the evaluation, and how can I overcome them?
  • What are the valuable outcomes the organization is striving to achieve through leadership development?
  • What techniques can I employ to ensure a successful evaluation? 

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

  • Assess your organization’s “readiness” to conduct LDP Evaluation (including culture, availability of data, and leadership support).
  • Create a basic evaluation plan.
  • Identify resources required, barriers, and constraints of evaluation.
  • Design strategies to overcome constraints.
  • Build leadership support for LDP evaluation.
  • Determine the essential evaluation questions.
  • Determine the evaluation best practices that will work best within your organization.
