To program online learning, you need to know how to create graphics, create multimedia elements and program the web code.

Which tool does this best if you are a newcomer? What about if you’re a seasoned developer? Which tool meets your needs, and which will leave you wanting more?

This workshop covers the types of software tools you need, and then explores web-based tools for creating e-learning including the most popular e-learning specific development tools on the market today.

  • Online3 sessions, 4.5 hours total
  • OnsiteFlexible dates & duration

Program Overview

If you have decided to expand your traditional instructional design skills or facilitation skills into the area of e-learning, getting started can be a challenge. Which software should you purchase? Do you need much of a background in graphic or multimedia design? How much time should you expect to spend learning these tools?

These questions are real and pose a distinct challenge for both individual training professionals and departments considering rolling training programs out via the web. This workshop addresses all of those topics and more. You will leave with the names of over 200 pieces of software you can use to create graphics, multimedia, animation, and code for your e-learning project. You will demo several pieces of software, including Captivate, Storyline, Rapid Intake, Flash, and Photoshop.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

  • Classify the elements of a good e-learning software design suite and be able to describe what tool types you will need to create online learning.
  • Assess your skill level to determine what type of software suite will meet your needs.
  • Distinguish between three separate tool sets and appraise each tool suite’s features and benefits.
  • Evaluate web-based vs. e-learning specific software development tools to decide which tools to learn and use.

Topics

  • Topic 1 - E-Learning Development
  • Topic 2 - Web Specific Development Software
  • Topic 3 - E-Learning Specific Development Software

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for the traditional learning professional who wants an overview of the tools and software necessary to create compelling e-learning programs for mobile or the web. This program is also for the learning leaders who are exploring options for e-learning, and deciding whether to “build” or “buy.”

Finally, this program is for learners who have experience with a specific software tool and want to see what else is available to take their e-learning projects to the next level.

"The ASTD program I attended showed me that online learning can go way beyond simple information distribution. The case studies were directly applicable to my job and industry, and provided examples of when things go right and when they don't. A class bulletin board provided a forum for learners to post homework and real life issues, and to get feedback from other learners and the instructor. I will definitely take another ASTD online program in the future."

    Mobile Learning

Companies are aggressively looking for ways mobile technologies can give them a competitive edge. A significant area in which to find this advantage is in mobile learning and performance improvement. Mobile learning (m-learning) is becoming an important area of focus for many organizations looking to push learning and development to a growing mobile audience that has smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. How do companies take their significant investment in e-learning and convert it for use in a mobile world? There is still a strong belief among people who are not intimately familiar with mobile learning that mobile learning is nothing more than e-learning on a mobile device. But the fact is that proper conversion of content to mobile learning requires instructional design and development skills for mobile learning.

In this detailed three-part program, join experts from Float Mobile Learning in the exploration of the Essentials of Mobile Learning. Strategy, media development, deployment strategies, and everything in between will be discussed in this series.

    Essentials of Scenario-Based E-Learning

Scenario-based e-learning (SBeL)—also known as problem-based learning or whole task learning—is a highly interactive course design that puts the learner in the role of a problem solver responding to realistic workplace problems or situations. The lessons are built around a series of progressively complex workplace assignments or situations. Scenario-based e-learning is a proven method to build expertise in tasks that are unsafe or infrequent in the workplace, or to build critical thinking skills.
