Program Overview

Many Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP) Professionals have discovered that they need to add coaching to their skill set. This two-day workshop demonstrates the functions of a successful WLP in the role of coach, including using an interactive process to help clients develop more rapidly and produce more satisfying results, and improving others' ability to set goals, take actions, make better decisions, and make full use of their natural strengths. Participants will learn a model that outlines a coaching process they can use with individuals, teams, or an entire organization, and will practice foundational coaching competencies through role plays, group exercises, and case studies.

In addition to skill-building on the coaching competencies, the workshop covers collecting data, establishing action plans, measuring and tracking results, and planning and managing the coaching program, to meet the specific needs of learning professionals. The content of this program is based on the ASTD Competency Study and helps in preparation for obtaining the CPLP™ credential. The ASTD Coaching Certificate is aligned with the International Coach Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics and the ICF Core Coaching Competencies.

ASTD Certificate Programs are learning events and a certificate is awarded to participants upon successful completion of the program. The ASTD Coaching Certificate Program allows participants to practice core coaching competencies, but coaching certification under the International Coach Federation (ICF) is not provided. For more information on how to become an ICF certified coach visit http://www.coachfederation.org/ICF/.

For more information on the ASTD Certification Institute's credential, the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance™ (CPLP™) visit ASTD Certification Institute.

  • Fred Polirer

"Participating in the ASTD Coaching Certificate Program was an invaluable experience that will benefit me tremendously in my professional career. The facilitator demonstrated his vast knowledge from more than 20 years as a coach by providing guidance through real-world examples of situations that we may encounter, along with the necessary coaching skills. In addition, the program was structured to help ensure that we understood how to apply the principles we learned in actual circumstances."

"This program reinforced the positive, actionable, and future outcomes that are the goals of coaching. The dialogue tools were definitely worth learning and practicing -- they gave me new insights into initiating productive conversations with peers and management while avoiding common pitfalls that can derail discussion. The coaching model provided a concise and bounded framework. I walked away with a very thorough understanding of what coaching is and what it isn't, and how to implement it effectively."

"I recommend this program because coaching can be a valuable skill set for many different professions, not just that of a coach. I really appreciated how the facilitator was such a knowledgeable and advanced coach herself. She really knew what she was talking about, and I loved hearing all the personal experiences from her coaching career and valued her ability to relate to the class."
