Adobe Flash® has two distinct audiences: the hardcore programmer/developer and the creative designers. As an instructional designer or e-learning designer, where does that place you? Rapid E-Learning software relies on Flash and Flash elements to add interactivity, but most high-quality e-learning courses are built entirely in Flash. Where do you begin learning? Most books and learning sites target either the programmer or the creative, but as an e-learning designer, where can you go? If you can relate to these questions then this three-session online workshop is for you.

The case study is one of the most challenging methods to design and develop for any learning program.
Although difficult to create, case studies yield many benefits, including:
- a realistic work context
- increased participant motivation
- a learner-centered method
- participant engagement in critical thinking skills
- a collaborative approach in the learning environment.
Because case studies require ample time to develop and teach, it is essential to determine if and when these are the right approach.
The Essentials of Developing Case Studies online workshop will provide a step-by-step approach to guide you in designing and developing custom case studies for their learning programs. As a part of the program, you’ll have an opportunity to write a case study example and share it in the final session to gain feedback.

In order to program online learning, there are some basic necessities: the ability to create graphics, to create multimedia elements, and to program the web code. Which tool does this best if you are a newcomer? What about if you are a seasoned developer? Which tool meets your needs and which will leave you wanting more?

Research shows that when someone becomes overly stressed at work from a specific incidence, it can take them more than four hours to recover. Stress and anger impede decision-making abilities and cause teams to fall apart. How can you become more aware of potential stressors and other emotional “triggers,” and their effects on yourself and your team?
This workshop will introduce and enhance your understanding of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) – your ability to identify and manage your own emotions and those of others – so that you and your team can make better decisions. You’ll gain a better understanding of how others react to stress, and learn strategies for how to best react to problems caused by stress.

Experience is the best teacher. Unfortunately, organizations have neither the time nor the budget to allow their people to learn through the school of hard knocks.
Simple and cost-effective computer-based experience design and simulations, (a.k.a. story-telling with little to no technology) offer a valuable solution. This approach provides organizations with an opportunity to capture the necessary experience their employees need in a cost-effective and time-saving format, while also giving employees the opportunity to gain experience in a safe environment without the bruising.
This interactive online workshop introduces you to a simple framework for simulations, which combine one’s work experience and expertise with the power of storytelling. Simulation isn’t a science; it’s just a way of organizing your thinking. This workshop will help participants to organize them to train others.
By the end of this workshop, you will have written a simulation narrative for your audience that enables them to identify key decision points and learn through simulated experiences.

There may never be a better time to take a workshop that easily walks you through the design, development, and testing of performance-based job aids. In today's competitive workplace, employees have more to do and less time to do it in. A critical tool to assist them in with this challenge is having the best tools (e.g. effective job aids) to help them accomplish tasks faster and smarter.

Scenario-based e-learning (SBeL)—also known as problem-based learning or whole task learning—is a highly interactive course design that puts the learner in the role of a problem solver responding to realistic workplace problems or situations. The lessons are built around a series of progressively complex workplace assignments or situations. Scenario-based e-learning is a proven method to build expertise in tasks that are unsafe or infrequent in the workplace, or to build critical thinking skills.

One of the most memorable methods in a learning program is storytelling. Stories have the ability to transform learning programs and engage participants by appealing to all learning styles: visual, kinesthetic/tactile, and auditory.
The benefits of using stories include:
- providing a realistic context for content
- conveying action versus static information
- providing motivation for participants to connect with content
- adding interest to learning programs.
When considering the use of stories, designers and facilitators should take into account how well they support the learning content and if they fit the culture of the organization. This program will help you determine when to use storytelling versus another training method, such as role play or case studies.
Upon completing the Essentials of Storytelling online workshop, you’ll have the skills to determine when storytelling is the best method to use and a process for creating custom stories for any learning program. In addition, you’ll also receive a number of existing stories that can be used for specific topic areas.

You can write step-by-step instructions like a pro, but now you have been asked to create voiceover narratives for e-learning scripts. Suddenly you must break out of the concise and factual focus of instructional writing and create text that engages and motivates the learner.
In this interactive one-day six-hour program you will learn to define the appropriate voice and tone for a narrative text and take specific steps to create the engaging and personable writing style that voiceover narratives require. You may practice writing narratives with our planned examples, or if you choose, work with an actual project of your own. Direct feedback on your work will be provided as time allows.

During the program participants will learn metaphors for distinguishing different aspects of a how-to text that will help them break down masses of information into learner-friendly units quickly and efficiently. The facilitator will review the writing process from acquisition of the content to structuring and formatting how-to steps in various types of technical documents.
Participants will also learn how to create introductory narratives that explain the purpose of each how-to segment and engage and motivate the learner. The facilitator will share examples that get this job done in two or three sentences, and participants will practice creating narratives for their own work as well. This program also touches on, but do not explore in detail, writing voiceover scripts for e-learning to accompany the step-by-step instructions.
Participants will write narratives and step-by-step instructions for topics presented in the workshop, and may also opt to write examples from their own work. Live beta testing will provide immediate feedback on writing and instructions. At the completion of each session, participants will receive direct feedback and engage in lively discussion that reinforces effective technical writing habits and techniques.
