Audience

This program is ideal for learning professionals who design and/or deliver training and want to adopt blended learning approaches.

About this Program

This unique ASTD program uses a blended learning approach to model the concepts taught in the workshop. Participants will be asked to complete a pre-work assignment which helps gather the information needed to work on their own curriculum during the workshop.

The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on day one. Day two begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs until approximately 2:00 p.m. Participants will then be asked to participate in a four-hour instructor-led online session several days later. Participants cannot receive a completion certificate if they don’t attend the online session at its originally scheduled time.

True to a blended curriculum, participants must complete the entire program in order to receive a certificate of completion and CEUs.

Learning Objectives

After the workshop, participants will be able to:

Define blended learning and apply practical tips, tools, and techniques for designing effective blended learning solutions.
List the various formats and media that can be 'mixed' for an optimal blended learning approach.
Align learning objectives with the most appropriate instructional method and format (i.e. decide when to use a blended approach and when not to).
Design a complete blended learning program using the exclusive ASTD Blended Instructional Design Process provided in the workshop.
Determine the resources, expertise, technology, and budget required to implement high-quality blended solutions.
Identify performance support methods and tools that support the blend, on the job.
Make the business case for increased use of blended learning in their organization.

Participation in all originally scheduled days of the program is mandatory in order to receive the certificate of completion and 1.5 CEUs. Participants who miss more than two hours of the entire program will not be eligible to receive the certificate. Participants who fulfill the attendance requirement will receive a certificate at the end of the program.

Participants may transfer their registration to another seminar free of charge. The transfer request must be received in writing five (5) business days prior to the first day of the seminar for which you were originally scheduled. A $50 transfer charge will be applied to all transfers received less than five (5) days prior to the first day of the session. Participant substitutions may be made at any time with written notification to ASTD. If the substitute participant is not an ASTD member and the original participant was, the difference between the member and nonmember rate will be billed.

If cancellation should be necessary, written or email notification to ASTD is required five (5) business days prior to the first day of the seminar. You may receive a full refund, minus a $100 administrative fee, up to and including the 5th business day before the seminar. If you find that you cannot attend, and it is less than five (5) business days before the start of the seminar, you may send a replacement, with written notice to ASTD. If you are unable to send a replacement, you forfeit your registration fee. All credits must be used within 1 year from the date of issuance.

On-Site Offerings

ASTD can make arrangements for this program to be offered on-site at your organization. Your attendees participate in the same learning experience offered at our public workshops, but have the convenience of being at your site and the benefit of covering the material with company peers.

Facilitators

Cindy Huggett

Cindy is the author of Virtual Training Basics (ASTD Press, 2010), and coauthor of two ASTD Press Infolines, “Simple, Effective Online Learning” and “Designing for the Virtual Classroom.” She has taught hundreds of synchronous online classes for a variety of audiences. Her favorite passion is to help trainers deliver effective online classes. She assists clients on their conversion to virtual training through her consulting practice.

As Chair of ASTD’s National Advisors for Chapters, Cindy served on the national ASTD Board of Directors in 2009-2010. She was recognized by the Triangle Business Journal as a “40-Under-40” Award recipient in 2003.

Cindy holds a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University. Cindy was also one of the first to earn the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) designation.

Nadine Martin

Nadine Martin has had many different aspects to her career including being an automobile insurance adjuster, trial preparation assistant for the Manhattan and Bronx District Attorneys, a rock climbing and backpacking salesperson and a member of the U.S. Women's Judo Team. She has spent the majority of her career in the technology learning field. She also has been the technology training manager for Northeast Utilities (a New England-based utility company),the IS learning manager for LL Bean and the e-learning manager for Bean. During her corporate career she helped to introduce the accelerated learning methodology at both companies as well as help to redesign the way in which learning was done at the company. She is certified in the usage of the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument and has been utilizing technology to deliver learning for most of her career.

Nadine has bachelor's and master's degrees in education as well as having done post graduate work in counseling. She is currently an independent consultant as well as the supervisor for instructor development for the Eastern Division of the National Ski Patrol.
