ASTD’s facilitators are seasoned practitioners with 10 years or more of experience in their content areas. They draw upon their professional accomplishments and career experiences to deliver personalized learning and valuable insights.

You’ll find that many of our facilitators are published authors or popular speakers in their fields of expertise, and they come from a wide range of industries and sectors. They frequently serve as instructional designers, managers, coaches, human performance improvement professionals, and consultants.

  • John Coné

    John Coné is principal of the Eleventh Hour Group. He consults on issues of organizational learning, with emphasis on strategy, planning, and design. He works with business, government and not-for-profits to create great learning functions and learning organizations. He was a founder of Motorola University, vice president of HR and CLO for Sequent, and creator and VP of Dell Learning. Coné has served on the boards of public and private training companies, and as chairman of the ASTD Board. In his 30 years in organizational learning, Coné and the organizations he has led have received numerous honors, including ASTD’s Gordon Bliss Award.

  • Suzanne Coonan

    Suzanne Coonan is an experienced Human Resources leader, consultant and leadership coach. She has nearly 20 years of experience in the human resources field including past positions at an MBA school, a legal publishing company, a technology consulting firm, and at Hewitt, a benefits outsourcing and consulting firm. Suzanne has been recognized for her exceptional interpersonal, facilitation, coaching, and leadership skills .

    Most recently, Suzanne served as Vice President 􀍴 Human Resources at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, a not-­‐for-­‐profit MBA school dedicated to helping improves people’s lives through education. She was on the senior management team and was responsible for all aspects of human resources at the School including talent management, recruiting, leadership development, employee relations, HR technology, compensation/benefits, compliance and organizational development. She worked extensively with the schools board of directors and has a strong financial acumen with a track record of achieving measurable results.

    Currently Suzanne is Principal of an HR consulting and coaching practice. She provides consulting as well as leadership development and career coaching to experienced business professionals who aspire to reach new heights or find meaning and balance in work and life. Her clients include individuals from Abbott, Allstate, Baxter, CVS/Caremark, GE, Grainger, HSBC, Johnson & Johnson and Wrigley/Mars, among others. In addition, she is an adjunct faculty member with the Lake Forest Graduate School of management’s corporate Education group where she facilitates sessions on career and leadership development.

    Suzanne holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Positive Organizational Development and Change from Case Western Reserve University. She is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute and is a graduate of the Coach U coaching program. In addition, she has extensive experience working with not-­‐for-­‐profit boards and is a founding board member of BENNU Legal Services. She is also on the board of Career Resource Center in Lake Forest, IL and was previously chair of the HR committee of the board at the award-­‐winning Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake, IL.

    Marya Danihel has been teaching business communication in all its forms for more than 20 years, guiding thousands of people at Fortune 500 companies and major nonprofit institutions to approach projects strategically, craft compelling messages, and run productive meetings.  As an associate of several training companies with international viability, she has consulted with their clients to design numerous custom courses and presentations.  In addition, her coaching has enhanced the performance of dozens of on- site and online facilitators.

    Marya has been working in the virtual training environment since 2000 and consistently received kudos for her highly interactive online training style, which is informed by her background in professional theater and broadcasting.  Besides writing scripts for commercial use, she has crafted feature stories and essays for public television and radio and hosted her own radio show. 

    Marya’s unusually broad industry experience includes assignments for clients in finance, insurance, government, biotechnology, engineering, health care, manufacturing, and transportation.  A former journalist for a business magazine, she has many articles to her credit and has edited several nonfiction books.

    Marya pursues gardening and music in her spare time at her home in New Hampshire.  She is the founder and artistic director of Vintage Voices, a vocal trio that performs Victorian popular music at museums and historic societies.

    Toni Hodges DeTuncq is president of THD & Company, Inc. For the past 20 years, she has concentrated on measuring human performance. Toni has conducted and managed operational systems and group evaluations for corporate, defense-contracting, and government organizations. Toni currently provides consulting services and skill enhancement workshops to help organizations establish accountable and effective evaluation programs. Her current and most recent clients include Bank of America, BAE Systems, BMW Manufacturing, the U.S. Army, and the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA).

    Toni was selected as one of nine "Training's New Guard—2001" by ASTD, and in 2000 the ROI Network named her "Practitioner of the Year." She has published numerous articles, was the editor of Measuring Learning and Performance (ASTD), author of Linking Learning and Performance: A Practical Guide to Measuring Learning and On-the-Job Application (Butterworth-Heinemann), and co-author of Make Training Evaluation Work (ASTD). Most recently, she is co-author of Integrated Talent Management Scorecards (ASTD), available in September 2013.
