ASTD is recognized for shaping national discussions on workforce development. ASTD's Government Relations team manages government relations activities. We represent our members' interests to policymakers through information dissemination, issue advocacy, grassroots activities.

NEW! ASTD just released a new white paper on the skills gap, Bridging the Skills Gap: New factors compound the growing skills shortage, which includes updated research from organizations in a variety of industries, and data about skills gaps from a recent ASTD poll of nearly 1,200 companies.

While recent economic challenges have forced public- and private-sector organizations to execute their strategies with more precision than ever before and do it with fewer resources—especially people—many still struggle with a skills gap within their existing employee base. And, some experts predict that skills shortages will intensify in the coming years as employers find they need to hire more knowledge workers for high-skilled jobs that will help their organization grow as the economy rebounds.
