The ASTD National Advisors for Chapters (NAC) recruits new applicants every year. NAC applications become available in April and are due after the ASTD International Conference. Applicants go through a series of reviews and interviews leading to final decisions by early August. Those selected for the NAC begin three-year terms in January of the next year. For more information, contact the chair of the NAC (see roster above).
The criteria and factors used to select NAC members varies somewhat each year as the NAC seeks balance among the NAC membership. However, qualification requirements that are consistent each year include
- ASTD local and national membership at time of application, to be retained through entire NAC term
- demonstrated chapter leadership as evidenced by chapter board experience (minimum two years)
- knowledge and experience in workplace learning and performance, as evidenced by HRD experience and accomplishments
- understanding of strategic thinking, ASTD's strategy and structure, and relationship to trends in business and workplace learning and performance
- ability to represent the Society's issues to chapters and chapter issues to the Society
- ability to perform as part of a leadership team, especially on a virtual basis
- ability to reflect a balanced and diverse perspective through field of expertise; ethnic origin; chapter size/composition; internal and external practitioner focus; and/or geographic location.
