Research Article Award
The ASTD Research Article Award is given to encourage the publication of research with practical implications for practitioners of workplace learning and performance. It is presented annually to the author(s) of the best article published in a refereed journal during the calendar year.
The 2006 award-winning article was "Mentorship Behaviors and Mentorship Quality Associated With Formal Mentoring Programs: Closing the Gap Between Research and Practice" by Tammy D. Allen, Lillian T. Eby, and Elizabeth Lentz. The research was published in Journal of Applied Psychology.
Criteria
-
The article must have appeared, or will appear, in print in a refereed journal between January 1 and December 31, 2008. Refereed journals consist of journals that require submissions to undergo a rigorous process of peer review to gain acceptance for publication. Refereed conference proceedings and non-refereed publications do not meet this criterion.
-
The article must address some topic of relevance to the practice of workplace learning and performance. Illustrative areas of concentration include
- training and development - performance improvement/analysis - career development - organizational development/learning - work design - adult learning in the workplace - e-learning - human resource development consultancy.
-
All rigorous research paradigms, approaches, and methodologies will be considered on an equal basis, including, for example, field-, laboratory-, quantitative-, and qualitative-investigations.
-
The article must explicitly consider the practiced implications of the research findings for the learning and performance professional.
-
All materials submitted, including the article, must be in English.
